Axminster, Devon Accommodating 10 guests.

Rock Mill is set within the picturesque Devon countryside nestling between its own fresh running springs and landscaped grounds.
Located within the Blackdown Hills - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - Rock Mill is just 4 miles from the scenic market town of Axminster, a short drive to Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast and within 40 minutes of Exeter and Taunton.
The main house is a historic Grade II listed building which has been recently renovated and refurbished using the finest craftsmen to restore the original features. Whilst preserving the tradition of the house we have tastefully added the style and comforts of luxury modern living.
History
Rock Mill is first mentioned in 1086 in the Doomsday Book as a small dwelling.
The restored building to the left of the courtyard was used as a working bakery in the 1400's and it is thought to be built around the same time as the oldest part of the main house. Re-built several times over the centuries, there is evidence by the existing "A" frames that the main works were completed in the sixteen and seventeen hundreds.
During the late 1800's, due to its position in the lee of Membury Valley, it was converted into an operational flour mill and still has some of the original workings of the mill in the lower library; the water wheel is a replica of the original wheel which was replaced in the 1980's.
Rock Mill was converted into a trout farm in 1969 after a period from the 1920/30's when its running waters grew watercress. Ceasing as a trout farm in 2009 it has undergone extensive internal and external renovations to create what is today, a unique and bespoke rural retreat.
The Accommodation
Rock Mill boasts five large double bedrooms all professionally decorated creating a stylish unique environment. The house has been completely renovated throughout using traditional craftsmen to preserve the history of the original building. Where possible, oak beams and walls dating back to the 16th and 17th century have been exposed, creating a traditional atmosphere blended with the comfort of modern day living.
The Mill has evolved throughout the centuries leaving an intricate web of history which is clearly evident throughout the house.
The reception area boasts a modern wood burner and cloak room.
To the left is a large modern kitchen with central work area with all modern accessories, to the right a beautiful dining area complete with inglenook fire place and flagstone floor.
The upper level of the main house has three large bedrooms, the Lake Room, the Vaulted Room and the Mill Room accompanied by two unique and stylish bathrooms.
Through the Dining Room is the Lower Library to the original mill of the house, which makes an ideal gathering place to watch television and enjoy our licensed streamed wine cellar where you can select fine wines from around the world.
The Upper Library provides an atmosphere to relax and work if necessary with our mini business centre.
The Upper Mill provides two coastal bedrooms accompanied by a beautiful bathroom.
Grounds
Rock Mill is set in 18 acres of countryside in the heart of the Blackdown Hills in East Devon. Designated as an environmentally sensitive area with Special Scientific Interest, the Blackdown Hills are considered one of the most unspoilt parts of the country and officially classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Spring water rising in the Mendip Hills flows gently through the estate, winding its way through a number of ponds and lakes, it can even be found in the heart of the house as it meanders through the wine cellar.
For outdoor enthusiasts there are two trout fishing lakes as well as country walks through the surrounding fields, or simply relax around our heated swimming pool.
